PLANTS Team1 bull kelp (scientific name Nerecoystis Luetkeana)


A bull kelp is an unusual seaweed because in one year they grow from a spore to a maturity. It can grow fast, about 10 inches every day. They reproduce a spore inside of spore patches which can be really heavy.
Once it's dead it is good for shelter, sand crabs, beach fleas, and periwinkles. they are used as fishing lines when they are dead and dried out. It is one of the biggest brown algae. The bull kelp reduces the effects of carrosian the same way with warn boaters of shallow reefs. It's shelter is the ocean floor because it's attached to a rock.
Bul kelp is important for food, habitat for sea species like sea birds, marine mammals and fish.They makethere's own food by photosytitosis. kelp lives in Alaska to southern California.

Team 7 Giant Sea Kelp (scientific name Macrocystis Pyrifera)

Giant Sea Kelp is algae or sea weed. Kelp forest is a forest that has zero trees only seaweed called Giant Sea Kelp. The kelp grows in cool coastal waters so the suns heat can go down to a rocky floor. The itg needs sunlight in order to grow. They eat or take in sunlight for food. Kelp is three main parts the holdfast, stipe, and the blade. A Holdfast attaches the kelp to the forest floor. The stipe is everything between the blade and holdfast. Giant kelp is one of the worlds fastest growing plants. They can grow 300 feet in one year. Once they reach the surface they start to form a floating mat. It can get 16 inches wide. Giant sea kelp is eaten by snails, crabs, sea urchins, fish, and humans. The humans use it and eat it in ice cream, cosmetics, many foods, and toothpaste. It lives in the pacific ocean on rocky sea floors. The giant sea kelp is eaten so it's a prey not a predator. It depends on sunlight to live. It looks like a giant long wavy leaf. Sea Otters help to keep the kelp forests alive by eating fish. It needs 50-65 degrees Fahrenheit. Kelp is most successful in upwelling regions. It was discovered in 1868 by the Santa Cruz within a month of the meltdown. Giant kelp can reproduce sexually and asexually. It has no seeds, protection, or shelter.

Red Algae (Scientific Name: Rhodophyta)
Red Algae is a marine plant that is considered poisonous, but it may also be used for medical reasons. It can either look like red seaweed or wet, red moss floating on top of the sea. Red Algae lives on the bottom of oceans all around the world, and it sometimes becomes detached from the ocean floor and floats on the surface of the ocean and washes up onto the beach. Red Algae feeds off of the nutrients in the water and can also support itself through photosynthesis. Red algae depends on the nutrients in the water, sunlight, and the water itself. Siamese Algae Eaters and Butterfly Goodeids slightly depend on red algae for food, but also feed on other algaes. It lives in the ocean because it can get the most nutrients from the water there and it is safest from predators in the ocean. It is successful because there are only a few predators in the ocean. Red algae maintains a large population by multiplying faster than they die out or get eaten. Red Algae are able to reproduce. They do this by having a male algae release spermatangia into the water and rely on the water currents to carry it to a female algae. Red Algae needs a sunny climate because it uses photosynthesis as a secondary food source. They have a diet of mainly detritus. Their adaptions are that their red color allows them to absorb light at the bottom of the ocean. Red Algae live on the bottom of the ocean, however deep that might be, out until the continent drops into the abyssal plain. They are important to their environment because, like most plant life, Red Algae creates oxygen for the animals that live in the sea.
